Painting Commissions

My portfolio, how to request, what to expect, pricing, etc.

My Experience

A lot of the artwork that I have created has been for other people. Whether that is commissions or gifts, I don’t keep a lot of the work that I create. That is because I find more fulfilment in sharing it with others than I do hanging it up on my own walls. Throughout the years, I have had a number of relatives, friends, and others reach out to me for customized artwork. This has ranged from digital portraits, to watercolor landscapes. Although I have created a wide range of pieces in the past, I am focusing more on Watercolor landscapes and architecture. I am open to other subject matter and mediums, but may not be able to accept all requests.

How to Request a Commission

The best way to request a commission is by emailing me at ritzerroams@gmail.com. This initial contact doesn’t need to be any formal request or a solid commitment to working with me, it is just treated as an inquiry. The information that I typically need is:

  • Subject matter: What landscape, building, scene, etc are you wanting me to document? Reference photos are highly encouraged here.

  • Medium: Most of the work I do is Watercolor, but if you’d like something else, let me know. And, if one of my previous painting styles stood out to you, please send that over!

  • Size: Even an estimate is helpful here

  • Timeframe: If you have a specific date that you would need the piece created and shipped by, let me know right away.

  • Budget: If you have a set budget in mind, send that over. If not, I will be sending you a range before getting started.

  • Bonus: Why? I always love hearing the stories and reasons behind the pieces that I am creating, so please share this with me!

What to Expect

Like I said, an initial email doesn’t lock in your request. I want to make sure that I am transparent with my prices, time availability, and capabilities. After an initial request, I will ask any additional questions that I may have. After information is gathered, and I believe I can complete it in the timeframe given, I will send over a price range that your request would fall under. If that price works for you, great! If it is greater than $300, I do ask for a small percentage down, mostly to cover supplies that are needed.

Then I will get started right away! In most cases, I will make a quick sketch of a composition and verify with you that it is what you are looking for. Throughout the entire painting process, you are welcome to ask for updates!

Pricing

Pricing can fluctuate with commissions because of the flexibility of size, materials, and time needed. Larger paintings tend to cost more, but they don’t need to if the subject matter is less complicated. Like I said, I will send a price range over and make sure it works for you before I get started!

I look forward to creating something specifically for you!
